My next tries were to be x11vnc and Remmina, but wanted to see what the SW community thought of it. So far, I have tried (and failed) to get tightVNC working, and xrdp. We would prefer to keep the current paradigm, where the technician connecting knows his mouse and desktop are visible and displayed on the display, but if RDP is more secure and offers similar, then we should go that route. The current solution on the Windows side is to use VNC server running on the display OS, and use RealVNC to connect in, which connects to the active desktop.Īs only a minimally-proficient linux-lover, I have not played with VNC/RDP on linux much, and wonder what I should choose. I am currently testing small linux distros on one of the embedded displays, and have worked it all out smoothly except for how to remotely control the displays. I have a handful of Samsung displays (with XP embedded, playing an ancient PowerPoint) that should be replaced, but purchasing/procurement is not moving fast enough.
